KISSE Background:
KISSE came about to address a chronic shortage of dedicated accounting software aimed specifically at creating the summary figures required for either the SA103 (Short)
or (Full) or SA200 (Short) or SA800 (Short) or (Full) or SA104 (Short) or (Full) that self-employed small or medium business enterprises are expected to fill out and return
every trading year to HMRC, inclusive of VAT liabilities where appropriate. Having researched the market extensively, and discovered that what was available fell well short
of what was required especially with Capital Asset Balancing Charges and VAT etc, there were two solutions left available to me......
1) Hand it over to the accountants, pay up and look happy, with the vain hope that they knew what they were doing, and lose control of my financial trading affairs....or
2) Research all available information from HMRC and various other sources, and create a solution that was useful, functional, well-designed and did exactly what was
required to drop in line with continually changing HMRC self assessment tax return requirements.
Due to a chronic shortage of applications that addressed all of the requirements, a decision was made to research and develop an Excel solution from scratch that could be
used by anyone who could navigate their way round spreadsheets - or who use a menu-based system, with the added bonus of saving extortionate accountancy fees for
providing a basic service that could be done yourself.
I wanted to provide a easy-to-use software solution that was both cost-effective and saved businesses money.
Using the very latest software (Microsoft Professional Plus 2007) as a developer platform, the KISSE system evolved over several months until the final version (s) was
available in April 2008 for both 0708 and April 2009 for the 0809 trading periods that could be used on any computer that had a version of Microsoft Excel 2007.
Note here that KISSE was built round the premise that traders were/are operating a standard trading year of 06/04/?? To 05/04/?? or a shorter part-trading year ending
05/04/?? if starting trading in the 0809 financial year.
Developer Background:
Having spent 17 years in statistical accounts, and more latterly 9 years as a business/software analyst and solution provider, working in the Information Services Sector,
culminating in a role of Payroll Manager paying 2000 personnel - With over 25 years in the financial sector - this has equipped me with the requisite knowledge and skill-set to
enable me to arrive at a professional solution to the lack of self-assessment accountancy software that has addressed all the issues. As you would expect it has been built
and tested to a very high specification - and YES I do use the KISSE application myself - where 1011 returns have been submitted and accepted by HMRC, where I now know
what my Tax and National Insurance liabilities are. 1112 records are entered and are all up-to-date - showing all my current trading figures - ARE YOURS?
